Kydd Group owner named
Entrepreneur of the Year
The Metropolitan Economic Development Association (MEDA) and the National Black MBA (Masters of Business Administration) Association - Twin Cities Chapter Have both named Kydd, "1999 Entrepreneur of the Year." The honors come on the heels of the Minneapolis Agency celebrating 10 years as a successful marketing, promotions and communications agency. The two awards are being handed out at recognition ceremonies in May.
Local state, city and major corporate officials are expected to be among the 700 attending the MEDA tribute during its Annual Meeting Luncheon at the Minneapolis Hilton on Wednesday, May 24 at 11:30 am. More than 200 guests are invited to attend an Open House from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in The Kydd Group offices at 400 First Avenue North, Suite 640 of the Wyman Building.
Kydd called the awards "the result of a true team effort", crediting her staff with the efforts that gained the recognition. The company has bee involved with MEDA from the start. One of the few minority- and female-owned businesses of its kind in the Twin Cities area, The Kydd Group started as a two-person shop and is now a multi-cultural staff of 14. The agency specializes in sponsorship marketing with a client list that includes General Motors, Pontiac/GMC, Cadillac, Charles Schwab, Miller Brewing Company, Dunwoody institute and the US Savings Bond Marketing division. "MEDA recognizes and respects Karen's personal and professional accomplishments as a minority entrepreneur," said president and CEO Yvonne Cheung Ho. " We celebrate with her as she is honored as a leader and a role model in the business and minority communities."
The awards are "coming home" honors for TKG because most of the agency's clients are out of state. Kydd sees the recognitions as an opportunity for more Minnesota businesses to get to know her company's reputable work. "Dedication to getting our clients closer to their customers are the core of everything we undertake," said Kydd. "We would like more of those customers to be from our hometown."
